Are you someone who likes to read about conspiracy theories? Do you wonder if what we are told is really the truth? I ask because M.I.T.H. is Spacedog Entertainment’s featured comic on this week on our sister-site WOWIO (http://www.wowio.com/spacedog) and it’s packed full of theories to fuel the paranoid mind.

Here is a list of other comics set in the world of conspiracy theories and politics where the masses are being controlled by information, or the lack thereof:

1) Planetary - This series focuses on an organization of superhumans charged with being the ‘Archaeologists of the Impossible.’ In each episode, Planetary tracks down artifacts, monsters or beings from the world’s secret history. All under orders from a mysterious Fourth Man who could be anyone. Written flawlessly and accompanied by beautiful art, this series pulls you in and wont let you go.

2) Transmetropolitan - Set in a nameless futuristic metropolis, this story follows lunatic journalist Spider Jerusalem as he rants and feeds the truth to the hungry citizens. The bulk of the series follows Spider in his personal battle against a corrupt president. Nicknamed “The Smiler” by Spider, the president’s sole purpose is to use his power to hurt people. It can get heavy at times when Spider’s journalist rants span multiple pages, but as with most of Ellis’ work, it’s written so well that you probably won’t mind.

3) The Invisibles - You can’t talk about secret groups protecting the world from supernatural powers without mentioning this series. The Invisibles is an epic series that follows a cell from The Invisible College who are up against inter-dimensional alien gods known as Archons of Outer Church. It’s hard to wrap this series up in a line or two, so if you’re a fan of shadowy organizations and like to root for those trying to stop them, this series is for you.

4) DMZ - Set in an America that is currently in a civil war, DMZ follows a journalist named Matty who is navigating the harsh landscape of politics and rebel warfare. Matty must play both sides and do what he can to bring the truth forward, at the same time keeping himself and those he cares about alive. Brian Wood’s writing really makes you care about the characters and the revolving list of talented artists bring his world to life.

5) From Hell -  Developed into a movie starring Johnny Depp, this series toys with the idea of the real identity and motives of Jack the Ripper. It’s built off the premise by Stephen Knight (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Knight_(author) that the murders of Jack The Ripper were part of a conspiracy between Masons and the royal family to hide the birth of an illegitimate royal baby. Eddie Campbell’s black and white art really helps set the tone for the gritty story and compliments Alan Moore’s expert storytelling.

Let’s not forget the title that started this post, M.I.T.H. In short, the series follows a group of special agents who are set with the task finding a warhead stolen from the US government by a nefarious enemy. Our hero is a special agent recently recruited into the Magical Intelligence Tactical Headquarters to help find the stolen nuke. To his surprise, he discovers that magic exists and ancient artifacts have turned the tide in war and politics throughout history. The M.I.T.H. organization operates behind the scenes, keeping America safe from those who would use those artifacts for evil. You can check out the digital release here for just 99 cents! That is the fun part of these types of stories, they get you thinking... the possibilities are endless.   What if there really was a goose that laid a golden egg and the US Government found it? It sure would help the budget crisis America is facing! Implausible? Yes. Fun to think about? Hell yes!

Just remember, the truth is -- (the rest of this entry has been omitted for your protection)
